Essential UAE Mobile Apps: UAE PASS, Dubai Now & More (2026 Guide)

Dubai isn't just a smart city — it's one of the most app-integrated cities in the world. From paying parking fines to renewing your Emirates ID to finding the nearest EV charger, there's an app for everything.

After living in Dubai for three years, these are the apps I use daily (or at least weekly) and consider essential for any resident.

Tier 1: Absolutely Essential (Install on Day 1)

1. UAE PASS

What it is: The UAE's national digital identity system. It's your single sign-on for over 5,000 government services.

What you can do with UAE PASS:
- Sign in to the Dubai REST app, ICP services, and all government portals
- Digitally sign documents (legally binding in the UAE)
- Access your driving license, vehicle registration, and Emirates ID digitally
- Apply for visa renewals, Emirates ID updates, and trade license renewals
- Log into banking apps (ENBD, ADCB, DIB support UAE PASS login)

Setup process:
1. Download UAE PASS from App Store or Google Play
2. Register with your Emirates ID number and UAE mobile number
3. Complete facial recognition verification
4. Set a 6-digit PIN

Verdict: This is the single most important app. Without UAE PASS, many government services require in-person visits. With it, you can do almost everything online.

2. Dubai Now

What it is: The "one app for everything" in Dubai. Over 250 government and private services in one place.

Key services:
- DEWA — Pay electricity/water bills, track usage
- Salik — Check toll balance, top up
- NOL — Top up transport card, check balance
- Dubai Police — Pay traffic fines, report incidents
- RTA — Check Salik, parking, public transport info
- Ejari — View tenancy contract
- Health — Book appointments at DHA facilities
- Education — Check school ratings (KHDA)
- Dubaipay — Pay all government fees in one place

Verdict: If you only install one app besides UAE PASS, make it Dubai Now. It replaces 10+ individual government apps.

3. RTA Smart (Dubai)

What it is: Roads and Transport Authority's all-in-one app for everything transport.

Key features:
- NOL card — Top up, check balance, view trip history
- Salik — Check toll crossings, top up (AED 50 minimum)
- Parking — Pay RTA parking (by zone and duration)
- RTA Dubai Taxi — Book taxis (Hala), track arrival
- Public transport — Metro, tram, bus, water bus routes and schedules
- Driving license — View digital copy, renew, pay fines
- Vehicle registration — Check expiry, renew, pay fines
- Traffic fines — View and pay all RTA fines

Verdict: Essential for anyone who drives or uses public transport in Dubai.

4. DEWA App

What it is: Dubai Electricity and Water Authority's official app.

Key features:
- Pay electricity and water bills
- View consumption history and usage graphs
- Report faults (electricity, water, street lights)
- Set up auto-pay (2.5% discount)
- Apply for new connections and disconnections
- Track energy savings (DEWA's "Smart Living" dashboard)

Verdict: You'll use this monthly at minimum. The usage tracker helped me reduce my bill by 15% (I could see exactly which months I was overusing AC).

Tier 2: Highly Recommended

5. Emirates NBD / Wio Bank (Your Bank's App)

Verdict: Install your main bank's app and Wio (for daily spending). The two-account strategy I mentioned in the banking guide works beautifully.

6. Careem

What it is: The region's super-app. Taxis, food delivery, package delivery, and more.

Key services:
- Hala Taxis — Book RTA taxis (meters run, standard rates)
- Careem Food — Food delivery (10,000+ restaurants)
- Careem Groceries — Grocery delivery from Carrefour, Waitrose
- Careem Packages — Same-day package delivery within Dubai
- Careem Pay — Mobile top-up, bill payment, money transfer

Verdict: Careem is more integrated into Dubai life than Uber. Discount codes and loyalty programs (Careem Plus) are worth it if you use it regularly.

7. Talabat

What it is: The largest food delivery platform in the Middle East.

Verdict: If Careem doesn't have a restaurant, Talabat will. It has the widest selection in Dubai, especially for budget-friendly options.

8. Dubai Police App

What it is: Official Dubai Police app for fines, reports, and services.

Key features:
- Traffic fines (check and pay with 25% discount if paid within 60 days)
- Report lost items
- "Police Eye" (report traffic violations with video)
- "Emergency" button (one-tap call to 999)
- Find nearest police station
- Get accident reports

Verdict: The traffic fine discount alone (25% if paid within 60 days) makes this worth installing. I saved AED 800+ on fines by paying early.

9. Dubai Calendar / Platinum List

What it is: Event discovery apps for Dubai.

Verdict: Dubai Calendar for official events (DSF, GITEX, Dubai Marathon), Platinum List for social/nightlife.

Tier 3: Niche But Useful

10. Entertainer

What it is: Buy-one-get-one-free (2-for-1) offers on dining, attractions, hotels, and activities.

Verdict: If you dine out twice a month or visit attractions regularly, this pays for itself. I've saved AED 2,000+ in a year on the subscription of AED 495.

11. Property Finder / Bayut

What it is: Real estate search platforms.

Verdict: Use both Property Finder (for breadth) and Bayut (for map-based search).

12. Okadoc / Vezeeta

What it is: Doctor appointment booking platforms.

Verdict: Better than calling hospitals. I use Okadoc for regular appointments and Vezeeta for quick telehealth consults (AED 80–120).

13. Rove / Yango

What it is: Ride-hailing alternatives (cheaper than Careem/Uber).

Verdict: Install as a backup. When Careem/Uber surge-pricing kicks in, these apps are significantly cheaper.

14. NOL Pay / RTA Smart

What it is: Mobile NFC payment for public transport.

Since 2025, you can tap your phone (Apple Pay / Google Pay) directly on metro gates without a NOL card. The fare is Silver card rate + AED 0.50/trip.

Verdict: Great for occasional metro users. Regular commuters should still get a physical NOL card.
